Meet Michele Waters, The Career Coach
I have over twenty years of experience in the field of Career and Employment Counselling. My own career journey began with a B.A. Degree in Germanic Studies from the University of Victoria. After graduating, I continued my studies in Germany on a scholarship awarded by the German Academic Exchange Fellowship. Upon completion of a very amazing year of personal growth, I returned to my homeland and settled in Vancouver where I taught Beginner's German as a Teacher's Assistant at UBC while completing a Diploma Programme in German Translation. After spending too much time with my head buried in dictionaries, I began the quest for a niche that would meet my deep need to connect with people in a heartfelt manner and make a significant difference in their lives. My search took me on a path to the threshold of Canada Employment (now called Service Canada). After the most abysmal performance at a job interview, much to my surprise, I was actually offered a contract for three months. Once I had my feet in the door at the Professional and Technical Branch, I was thrilled to meet some very fascinating people called Employment Counsellors. With my interest piqued, I diligently conducted information interviews, at a time before it was a commonly recommended step to take in the Career Research process. With first hand information, I discovered the necessary steps that I needed to follow in order to pursue this intriguing career path. Once I set my course, the pieces really did fall into place quite magically. The Law of Attraction was manifesting itself in my life without my conscious awareness. In the coming months, I took all of the in-house training that was available to me, I attended many job interviews, and I also offered to help out my Mentors as much as I could to demonstrate my enthusiasm and keen interest. After two very focused and exciting years, I landed my dream job as a Special Needs Employment Counsellor at the Canada Employment Centre in Richmond, BC. I had the humbling and challenging responsibility of assisting job seekers with multiple barriers with their search for rewarding work. I was constantly inspired by their courage and determination.
